Mid-Level Aquatic Ecologist
The opportunity

We are seeking a mid-level aquatic ecologist to join and help grow our Victorian-based business.  We encourage a family-friendly and flexible working environment and whether its part/full-time, contract or flexible working arrangements.  The role will  focus on primarily freshwater ecology and water quality surveys, assessments, monitoring and management aligned to your experience and expertise.  However, candidates with marine, coastal, and estuarine ecology experience should also consider applying.  You will be responsible for undertaking and leading field programmes, managing data and GIS, and preparing technical reports.

Aquatica Environmental is a small family owned and run environmental and ecological consultancy specialising in the study and management of freshwater, estuarine and marine waters, aquatic ecosystems, biota and habitats.  Established in 2014 our services offerings come from over 20 years of experience in aquatic sciences, natural resource management, ecology, project management and aquaculture, and 15 years in NRM and aquatic ecosystem consulting.

Aquatica Environmental works across various sectors including resources/mining, infrastructure, government, and private industries.  We pride ourselves on providing high quality technical scientific solutions to our valued existing and new  clients.

Requirements to be successful
  • A related Bachelor-level university degree in Aquatic Ecology/Biology, Environmental Science, Zoology or related.
  • At least 5 years’ industry experience, preferably as a consultant in a similar role.
  • Experience in conducting and leading aquatic surveys, fauna identification and reporting primarily in freshwater environments, with estuarine and marine experience also desirable.
  • An understanding of various monitoring and sampling techniques, including netting/trapping, AusRivAS/RBA and the sampling or identification of macroinvertebrates would be highly regarded.
  • Functional knowledge of relevant local, Victorian and Commonwealth environmental legislation and planning policies .
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and ability to provide advice and high-quality outcomes to clients.
  • A high level of computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (at a minimum).
  • Experience using various GIS, statistical analysis and/or modelling software are optional but highly regarded.
  • Ability to work outdoors in field locations and a willingness to travel is essential.
  • A full current Victorian driver’s licence, 4WD training or experience highly valued.
  • Australia citizenship or rights to work in Australia.
