Environmental Impact Assessment (EIS)

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a formal process used to identify the potential environmental effects of an action, development or project.  The aim of EIA is to ensure that possible issues are foreseen and addressed, as a part of the planning and design stages, to minimise negative effects and maximise opportunities for environmental enhancement.

The Aquatica Environmental team has experience successfully coordinating, managing and implementing the ecological component of the EIA process for a diverse range of project types and sizes for both the public and private sectors.

Aquatica Environmental can advise on the ecological impacts of a project as a stand-alone ecological impact assessment or as the ecological component of an EIA.  We can provide advise from the earliest stages of a project all the way through to the construction and operation phases.  However, we can also assist you with any of these individual stages.

We work closely with your project team, any required specialists and approvals authorities to investigate and evaluate the potential impacts of the project and develop practical management and mitigation measures suitable to your project.

Essential to the success of a project we provide timely submission of your final documentation to statutory authorities and can guide you through the approvals process.

Environmental Impact Assessment Services
  • Project screening / testing against the regulatory background to determine whether EIA is likely to be required for a development project
  • Project strategy planning, scoping, review and audit
  • Environmental assessments including desktop and baseline studies, biological surveys (i.e. aquatic and terrestrial fauna and flora), threatened species assessments, assessment of Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) and physical assessments (i.e. water quality) supporting EIA
  • Impact assessment, impact avoidance, reduction and minimisation, mitigation
  • Identification and implementation of offset strategies for critical assets
  • Evaluation and ranking of project options
  • Stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation
  • Integration of EIA process with the approvals / decision-making processes
  • Development and design of mitigation and environmental management plans;
  • Reporting of Environmental Statement
  • Implementation of EIA and management plan protocols for monitoring, surveying and assessment
  • Post EIA (i.e. construction and operation phases) environmental monitoring, site supervision and audit

Where a formal EIA is not required we can provide a complete ecological and environmental service to assess, report and resolve relevant issues to minimise environmental programme and cost risk to the project and maximise performance.
